Week 23 Update

Premier Division round up

Only two teams from the top division were in action this week, as Alfreton ‘A’ hosted title chasers Lennons ‘H’. Away captain Kevin Breeze set the tone early, securing a convincing 57-12 victory over Jack Morton. However, the visitors quickly seized control, with breaks of 30, 46, and 46 from David Birley, Daniel Tramontano, and Gav Shirley propelling them to a commanding 4-0 lead. Alfreton’s Steve Donner managed to salvage a frame with a break of 51, but it was merely a consolation. The victory moves Lennons level with the league leaders, while third-place Welcome ‘A’ still holds a game in hand—leaving the Premier Division title race wide open.

Division One update.

There was a major shake-up at the top of the team standings this week. New Whittington ‘B’ had dominated first place for most of the season, but they suffered a tough setback, falling 4-1 to Brotherhood ‘B’. Meanwhile, their closest challengers, Newbold CA ‘A’, secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Alfreton ‘D’, leapfrogging New Whittington ‘B’ to take the lead in the title race.

However, the standout performance of the week came from Alfreton ‘G’ captain, Adam West. Facing Darren Coop of Lennons ‘A’, Westie found himself trailing early on but produced a moment of brilliance, recording his highest-ever break of 49. Achieving such a milestone in a league match made it even more special for the Alfreton player. Despite his impressive effort, it wasn’t quite enough to secure the frame, as Coop delivered a superb clearance on the colours to snatch victory on the black. Nevertheless, an outstanding achievement—well done, Westie!

Division Two report

Alfreton ‘B’ extended their impressive unbeaten run with a third consecutive 3-2 victory over Grassmoor ‘A’. However, with Brotherhood ‘C’ securing a matching 3-2 win against Hasland Club ‘D, they maintain their narrow lead at the top by just a single point.

Hasland ‘C’ bounced back strongly from last week’s 5-0 defeat, delivering a commanding 4-1 victory over their clubmates, Hasland ‘B’. The highlight of the night came from Dean Jepson, who produced a superb 46 break against the in-form Daryl Turner.

Meanwhile, Brotherhood’s John Roseman continues his remarkable unbeaten streak, now standing at 17 wins from 17 matches. With seven games left in the season, can he go the distance and finish undefeated?

Division Three update

With both Alfreton ‘F’ and Lennons ‘I’ dropping points again this week, Clowne Liberal ‘B’ seized the opportunity to climb into second place with an impressive 4-1 victory over Alfreton. Their title hopes are now very much alive. However, this division remains the most competitive, with just six points separating the top five teams, keeping the race wide open.

Division Four report

With Brotherhood ‘F’ continuing their dominant run, the battle for the crucial second-place spot is heating up. Brotherhood ‘E’ and Lennons ‘G’ are currently level on 46 points, while Newbold CA ‘C’, with a game in hand on 43 points, remains firmly in contention. These three teams look set to fight it out for the coveted playoff position.

In the player standings, Brotherhood players currently occupy six of the top eight spots for Divisional Masters qualification. However, with rankings shifting each week, the race for a top-eight finish remains wide open, leaving plenty of opportunities for others to break through before the season finale.

Competition Round-Up

Only a handful of competitive matches took place this week.

Starting with the Pairs semi-final, congratulations to Glen Shawcroft and Kennedy Wright, who triumphed over Brotherhood’s Martin Conway and Andrew Frisby to secure their place in the final. They will now face Dan Tramontano and Dave Pagett of Lennons in the championship match.

In the Team of Three competition, Wayne Martin of The Welcome Institute delivered the highest break of the week. Facing Hasland ‘A’ captain Gavin Cann, Martin produced an initial break of 36 before expertly compiling a superb clearance of 89. However, in a dramatic twist, Cann responded in their next frame by decisively defeating Martin—limiting him to just a single point. Despite this, Hasland could only manage one frame in the quarter-final, ultimately falling 4-1 to The Welcome.

In the first semi-final, Brotherhood ‘A1’, led by Jonathan Hall, booked another final appearance. Last season’s champions overcame Lennons ‘H’ 4-2, with David Birley impressing for Lennons with a solid 47 break. However, it wasn’t enough to prevent Brotherhood from advancing to back-to-back finals thanks to wins from Gary England and Dave Wilkinson.

Meanwhile, in the Handicap competition, Gareth Clarke came agonisingly close to an upset in his third-round clash against Premier player Jason Rimington. Despite pushing Rimington to the limit, experience prevailed, with Rimington securing a quarter-final spot. His modest 32 break stood as the highest of the match.
