Birley makes his first 147!

‘Max Power’ David Birley after his superb 147 break

David Birley achieved the pinnacle of snooker excellence this week, delivering a flawless 147 break during a practice match against his close friend and teammate, Daniel Tramontano.

The 39-year-old Lennons SC player, a long-time competitor in the Chesterfield & District Snooker League since his teenage years, was visibly ecstatic as he potted the final black to complete his first-ever maximum break.

Congratulations, Dave!

You can watch every shot of Dave’s break below…Enjoy!

I’ve been playing snooker since I was 14 years old and It’s amazing that I’ve finally made a max. I was S*****g myself on the pink though!

As we take a break from league action this week, our focus shifts to the Team KO semi-finals and other competitions. Congratulations to all the teams that have secured a spot in their respective Finals!

In Group 1, the 2017 champions, Newbold CA ‘A’ (formerly Old Whitt ‘A’), put on a dominant performance to eliminate last season’s winners, Alfreton ‘A’. They will now face the 2023 champions, Welcome Inst ‘A’ (formerly Alfreton ‘E’), who were equally impressive in their victory over Brotherhood ‘C’.

Meanwhile, in Group 2, Brotherhood ‘F’ are aiming for a league and knockout double as they take on Doe Lea ‘A’. Both teams are eager to claim their first-ever Group Two KO trophy.

Well done to Nathan Cooper who made the only notable break of the round, a very respectable 44 break!

Finnigan Secures SightRight Money Match Victory to Conclude Romley Event

The prestigious Romley event wrapped up in style this week, with a thrilling bonus money match showdown between the main and plate winners. A lively crowd gathered in Alfreton, eager to witness the clash between Martin Finnigan and Lee Hage.

Both players took time to settle into the contest, with early nerves evident. However, it was Finnigan who found his rhythm first, producing a composed 35 clearance in the opening frame, followed by an impressive 41 in the second, putting the Lennons player firmly in control. Hage responded with a determined fightback, registering a 33 break in the third frame. But Finnigan held his nerve, crafting a crucial 27 clearance to force a black-ball re-spot, which he duly won to establish a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the break.

Hage emerged with renewed determination, capitalizing on his momentum to pull a frame back. However, Finnigan swiftly regained control, sealing the victory with a composed 33 break in the fifth frame. His triumph was met with warm applause from the appreciative audience.

Congratulations to Martin Finnigan on a well-earned win!

Brotherhood 'A2' Triumphs in Semi-Final Thriller

In the Team of Three competition, Brotherhood ‘A2’—comprising Kieron Stevenson, Rob Mullis, and Darren Mosley—secured a hard-fought victory over a formidable Welcome Institute ‘A’ side in a gripping seven-frame semi-final. They now advance to the final, where they will face defending champions Brotherhood ‘A1,’ ensuring an all-Brotherhood ‘A’ showdown. The ‘A1’ team, featuring Jonathan Hall, Dave Wilkinson, and Gary England, will look to retain their crown. An outstanding achievement for the Brotherhood club!

Birley’s Brilliance Edges Him Closer to Sixth Title

David Birley delivered yet another masterclass in his Premier matchup against Hasland’s Jason Rimington. With breaks of 41, 47, and a league-high 61 for the week, Birley moves one step closer to claiming his sixth Premier title. Meanwhile, Alfreton’s Adam Cupit celebrated reaching his first Premier quarter-final, setting up an eagerly anticipated clash against one of the league’s top contenders.

Shock Exits in Handicap Competition

The Handicap competition saw two former champions, Jonathan Hall and Kieron Stevenson, bow out early against lower-division opponents. Despite impressive breaks of 35 and 47, Hall lost a deciding frame to Grassmoor’s Deano Hancock. Stevenson suffered a similar fate, falling by the same scoreline to clubmate John Roseman, who is in top form. Roseman continued his strong run, securing a spot in the Geoff Hardy Quarter-Final with a commanding 3-0 win over Hancock. Also securing a quarter final spot in the Geoff Hardy competition is Lennon’s Lewis Longden, again showing us his much improved scoring ability, making a respectable 45 break against Alfreton’s Shane Miles.

Monk’s Decisive Break Secures Semi-Final Spot

Alfreton’s Ben Monk produced a steady 51 break in the final frame to defeat Brotherhood’s Matt Large, earning a well-deserved place in the semi-finals of the John Smith Memorial Trophy.
